Our Mission
The primary mission of Northern Lambda is to advance the interests and well-being of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community of Aroostook county Maine. Northern Lambda shall have as its strategic objectives:
- To help GLBT people divest themselves of negative attitudes about sexual orientation, to become comfortable with themselves, and to celebrate and appreciate the diversity of our community.
- To serve as an educational resource and role model within the community at large in an effort to positively effect attitudes about GLBT people.
What Northern Lambda is Not
Northern Lambda is not a political or activist group. We do not get involved with political issues or publicly align ourselves one way or the other. Instead, we focus inward to provide what we can to our GLBT community. We support. We educate. We fundraise to help those in our community.
Please note: this does not mean that the individuals who make up the Board of Directors or other members at large are not allowed or not already involved in politics and activism, either in another group or as individuals. However, in doing so, they are not acting as a representative of Northern Lambda.
