For Family and Friends

Your son or daughter has just come out of the proverbial closet. You are here in search of answers and support.

First you need to understand your teen has just made one of the hardest decisions in their lives to come out and say “Mom, Dad... I’m gay.” They have displayed to you the amount of love and trust they have for you and more than ever need your love and support as their sexual orientation has just begun its long and discriminatory journey.

Regardless of religious or political beliefs, it is important that you cast aside the doubts, anger and resentment and become more educated about the gay, bisexual and transgendered community. Listen to your teen as they will be a wealth of information, even throughout the entire confusing process.

Parents, you are not alone. Thousands upon thousands of parents are in the same boat as you. There are resources for you as well.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is one of the largest non-profit groups with offices nationwide. Their mission is to support and educate parents and friends about homosexuality and transgender tendencies. For more information on PFLAG, please visit their website at: http://www.pflag.org.
